Arizona has an excellent program for medicare recipients. In Arizona, you have to have Medicare Part A and Part B to get a Medicare Advantage plan Part C. This is also know as Medicare Advantage Plans. These plans are by county, such as Maricopa county. Additionally, coverage under these plans can include Medicare type D.

Arizona Medicare Advantage Plans that are available  include:

  • Medicare Health Maintenance Organization (HMOs)
  • Preferred Provider Organizations (PPO)
  • Private Fee-for-Service (PFFS) Plans
  • Medicare Special Needs Plans (SNP)
  • Point of Service (HMO-POS)

Medicare supplement plans can work to cover gaps from your traditional medicare coverage. Medicare may, in some instances, not cover things such as co-pays, doctors visits, deductibles for hospitalization and other places where Medicare insurance does not pick up the full tab. These plans are also known as Medigap plans, due to their capacity to close the gaps in Medicare plans.

Supplemental insurance to assist with unexpected expenses resulting from lapses in coverage while on Medicare can be very cost effective. Be sure to discuss your options with your health insurance agent, so you know the risks and potential liabilities resulting from not having a supplemental policy. Retirement is fraught with peril, but with proper coverage health care expenses can become a very predictable part of your finances.
